MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. – A little pampering goes a long way, especially when you are fighting something as daunting as breast cancer. The WaterColor Inn Spa and Spa Blu generously donated massages, facials and pedicures to several women in the Breast Cancer Support Group at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast.

“A simple gesture from our community brings such delight to our breast cancer patients and survivors,” said Kristi Roark, patient care navigator in the Olson Women’s Diagnostic Center at Sacred Heart. “We are blessed to have community support, and the women truly appreciated the special attention.”

“I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with some wonderful men and women who are cancer survivors, and I am reminded daily of how resilient the human body is,” said Krista Sherman, spa director at WaterColor Inn Spa. “What inspires me most is the strength of spirit cancer patients show from diagnosis through subsequent treatment.”

To meet the growing needs of breast cancer patients and survivors in our community, Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast hosts a breast cancer support group that meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. The mission of the support group is to empower breast cancer patients and survivors through education, spirituality, support and humor. Benefits of joining a cancer support group include an increased self-esteem, enhanced sense of community, and the joy of giving and receiving encouragement and hope.

The breast cancer support group is sponsored by the Olson Women’s Diagnostic Center at Sacred Heart, which conveniently centralizes all screening and diagnostic appointments for mammograms, stereotactic breast biopsies, ultrasounds and bone density scans. A dedicated patient care navigator provides patient advocacy, coordination of services, education and support to all women and their families.
